San Miguel Corporation (SMC) food unit San Miguel Foods dispelled fears of an impending shortage of food staples such as hotdogs and luncheon meat products, following alarm bells raised by some groups due to import restrictions and a surge in meat material prices. San Miguel Foods, which carries the Purefoods brand, said that its line of refrigerated meats and canned goods will remain available in supermarket shelves and other retail outlets, despite global challenges that affect the cost and availability of raw materials. “Since the start of the pandemic, our Food business has strived to make our supply chains more agile and resilient. As a result, we have expanded our raw material supply sources, and have also increased our flexibility in terms of production.”

SMC begins regular production, distribution of free nutribuns to feed city's poor via food kiosks. San Miguel Corporation (SMC) makes good on a promise to continue helping the urban poor cope with the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has started implementing a plan, together with non-profit groups, to distribute free nutribuns to disadvantaged communities via feeding kiosks at identified Petron service stations. SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon S. Ang said that the program officially kicked off yesterday, Sept. 22, with initially, four Petron stations serving as staging areas for the food relief effort. The nutribuns are baked at the Petron stations, while partner NGOs and local government units (LGUs) take care of distributing these to nearby poor communities.

San Miguel Corporation’s (SMC) food unit San Miguel Foods is offering enterprising Filipinos the chance to start their own small business during the pandemic and contribute to economic recovery, by becoming part of the company’s growing network of small business partners. Under San Miguel Foods’ Community micro-enterprise program, any interested individual can get into selling the company’s full line of popular and trusted brands, including Magnolia Chicken, Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs, Purefoods Chicken Nuggets, Magnolia Gold Butter, Magnolia Fresh Milk, Bake Best Premixes, and Dari Crème, in their own communities. “We want to help those who have lost their jobs, or who have encountered financial difficulties due to the pandemic, and are in need of additional or alternative sources of income. While we help them re-establish their livelihood, they will in turn help us bring our products closer to more consumers,” SMC president Ramon S. Ang added.

San Miguel Corporation (SMC), through its food division San Miguel Foods, recently purchased 524,155 metric tons of corn from local farmers, increasing its total purchase by 20% from 436,209 metric tons in September. This is so far the largest volume purchased by the company from farmers' cooperatives as part of its continuing efforts to help local farmers boost their incomes in the midst of the pandemic. With the completion of its many new, modern feed mills nationwide, SMC will be buying even more local corn supply in the future. particularly from Bukidnon and Pangasinan. According to SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon S. Ang, these new facilities, equipped with large silos with aerators, are capable of stockpiling and storing corn and other grains for a year. This will enable the company to store bulk corn longer, give more income to local farmers, and boost food security.

San Miguel Foods, Inc. has further expanded the reach of Chick ‘n Juicy by Magnolia chain of chicken rotisseries, opening its 87th store in Bagong Barrio, Caloocan, and boosting delivery network to serve more customers in this time of pandemic. Just 18 months in operation, the chain of stores has grown its presence in in 12 out of 17 cities in Metro Manila and several nearby provinces. It has also recently expanded to Petron Treats stores in Diego Silang Taguig and Libis Quezon City. Geared towards providing affordable but high-quality, premium-tasting roast chicken offerings to a wide segment of consumers, Chick ‘n Juicy has also put particular focus on safety and convenience, particularly since San Miguel Foods and parent firm, San Miguel Corporation (SMC), have been at the forefront of private sector response to the COVID-19 pandemic. “With the pandemic still a threat to lives and health, we’re emphasizing safety across all San Miguel businesses,” said SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon S. Ang. “In our food businesses, since the start of the quarantine to the present, we’ve introduced many ways for consumers to have continuous, convenient, and safe access to our products—from rolling stores, community selling, to online ordering,” He added.
